Breaking Ground

Okay so this is my Breaking Ground blog and no, by that I do not mean I am about to present you with a 'Ground-breaking' blog; that would be something’s quite different and I would consider it a rather large achievement. This is my first ever blog that I am actually going to dedicate time to and hopefully actually learn how to use! My previous experience on WordPress was not so successful, with the whole technological side of it just befuddling me entirely  However, my good friend and flatmate Brooke-Leigh Perriam (also on Blogger) told me how to set up one on here and I truly hope she doesn't get irritated by my constant, 'how do I...' questions. Hopefully there will be less to ask her over time!!

This blog is going to be dedicated to my love of poetry, whether that means uploading my own pieces or someone else's with analysis alongside. Poetry is my passion. In some senses it is my 'secret' passion, with it only ever being shared online and with the occasional best friend when I let my guard down for a split second. I love reading, give me a good book (particularly Hardy, Hughes, Rossetti, - if we're talking poetry, Wilde for plays and Maitland, Canavan or Harrison where fantasy and historically fiction is concerned) and I'll be away for hours. Pass me a notepad and pen and I'll be gone even longer.

The reason I love to read and create so much is that I find that it gives us a realm to escape into. Somewhere not quite real even if it is meant to reflect reality. For a small period of time we can run away from what is expected of us, disappearing from the responsibility of it all. We can hide somewhere so different that we can cry, laugh, run, fight and grow in a completely different way. However, there is always that beautiful familiarity of entering the world of literature which allows you to feel safe and sure footed as you undertake this adventurous exploration. Maybe I sound like I'm sprouting rubbish but this is what every good book makes me feel. Then there's what inspires me to write myself. Every time I sit up on North Hill Graveyard, or on the tumulus, or the rock heap, or the hay bales or explore the woods, my minds reels with adventures that I have to sprint home to scribble down in one of a hundred of scruffy notebooks. It's been like this for years and finally I have discovered that the internet provides a medium to share these things without fearing face-to-face confrontation. So this is it, the beginning of my blog, ready to be filled with random ramblings and poetry whether or not anyone actually cares or agrees with what I'm saying. So if anyone out there ever bothers to read please let me know and suggest any books or blogs you think I would like. Thanks a bunch, Amy.x
